SCC Vote on March 7, 2020
Adelante Progressive Caucus co-founder and former Chair and Pia Gallegos announced her candidacy for the Democratic Party of New Mexico Committeewoman. The DPNM has four representatives to the Democratic National Committee (DNC): the Chair (Marg Elliston), the Vice-Chair (Marcus Porter), and a Committeeman and Committeewoman. The State Central Committee (about 470 members) will elect the Committeeman and Committeewoman at the SCC meeting and Pre-primary convention on Saturday, March 7, 2020, at the Buffalo Thunder Hotel in Santa Fe.
The DNC is charged with facilitating the Democratic presidential nominating process, generally governing the party, and coordinating strategy to support party candidates. Pia Gallegos pledges to work diligently to include underserved people in the party, to keep the DNC free from corporate influence, and to ensure that the DNC remains neutral in the primaries. She advocates continued superdelegate reform and a presidential primary devoted to climate change.
Pia Gallegos has been a civil rights litigator for 36 years, representing employees who have suffered workplace abuse, sex harassment, wrongful discharge, and whistleblower retaliation. She has been an SCC member for two terms, a Ward Chair, and an organizer of a forum advocating community solar legislation with state legislators Rep. Patricia Roybal Caballero and Abbas Akhil. She currently serves on the DPNM Rules Committee.
