Democrats Will Choose Candidate for CD1
With Rep. Deb Haaland picked to be the next secretary of the Interior, New Mexico is excited to elect the next representative for Congressional District 1.
The Democratic nominee will be chosen by members of the party’s State Central Committee, or SCC, from Congressional District 1. But the timing depends on when Haaland resigns from her current seat.
The SCC will choose the Democratic nominee at least 56 days before the election. The most common way to become part of the SCC is to get elected during the meeting of a County Central Committee, which takes place in the spring of odd-numbered years.
Congressional District 1 consists of Torrance County, most of Bernalillo County, and parts of Sandoval, Santa Fe and Valencia Counties.
